An elderly aged man, said to be an inmate of the Palms, and who gave his name as Peters, fell into the Croal Street canal outside the Supreme Court Thursday, and had to be pulled out by a policeman.
But the  man, who claimed that he was on a  hunger strike, protesting  irregularities  at  the Palms , was left on the bank of the canal and was in danger of  falling back into  the water when two public-spirited citizens, including a City constable, lifted him onto the road-side.  An ambulance was summoned and he was taken back to the Palms.
