Dharmic Sabha leads promotion of Hindu dharma in Guyana

– lauds Guyanese for adhering to its request to keep out alcoholic beverages from all of its functions
THE Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has recorded its appreciation to the Guyanese community who adhered to the Sabha’s request to keep out alcoholic beverages from all of its functions.

The Sabha, in a statement yesterday, said it’s Constitution provides for “no alcoholic beverages to be sold or consumed at our Melas and other public functions”.

It said this firm stand has borne the fruit of success and at the current time every organisation which participates in these function desist from alcoholic indulgences.

For well over twenty-five (25) years, the Sabha said it has observed the decline of Chowtaal Goles and immediately thereafter, initiated Chowtaal Samelans, which brought together youths singing during the season of Holi.

“We held a puja for Burwah Mangar and commenced the second phase of educating the young people in the singing of Ramayan Bhani.  This programme will also inculcate the learning of Hindi,” it said.

It noted that Phagwah this year showed conspicuous signs of more order and, at the Kendra in particular, persons were not permitted to dress exposed and complied by attiring themselves in a way more in keeping with Hindu traditions.

The Sabha said it humbly takes credit for these visible changes and will continue to lead in the promotion of Hindu dharma in our country.

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has to its credit successes in the many innovative things it has been doing and will in the upcoming year, expand its work to cover other cultural programmes.

“This period ends on Monday, April 4, 2011, the Hindu New Year’s day.  On this very day we shall begin the observance of Navaratra, the worship of the universal mother,” the Sabha stated.

The Dharmic Sabha is a national organisation, and has the capacity and wherewithal to mobalise as it has done during the Phagwah season.
