DEVENDRA Bishoo’s debut bowling performance in the current World Cup tournament has not gone unnoticed.
The Guyanese leg-spinner, who grabbed three for 34 against England last Thursday, will be rewarded for his fine effort, compliments of Manniram ‘Packer’ Shew of Shew’s General Store, Leopold Street, Georgetown.
The popular sports enthusiast has decided to donate a trophy and $15 000 (five thousand dollars for each wicket) to the Albion player who was called up by the West Indies selectors as a replacement for the injured Dwayne Bravo.
Bowling with great control at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepau, India, the “little” leg-spinner got the wickets of Jonathan Trott, caught at mid-wicket by Chris Gayle, Eion Morgan, caught by wicketkeeper Devon Thomas and Luke Wright caught at deep mid-wicket.
Shew’s cousin, Lakechandra ‘Vishnu’ Ramlogam, a New York-based Guyanese, who is also an ardent cricket fan, has also joined in offering kudos to the wily leg-spinner and will be donating $10 000 to the cause.
According to Shew, the presentation will be done at an appropriate time on Bishoo’s return to Guyana.
Kudos for Devendra Bishoo
