FOLLOWING break in the weather, the inaugural Lens Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 League for City teams is now set to kick off tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club Ground with four matches. Ten clubs will be vying for the championship trophy and bragging rights in this tournament.
Pele, Sunburst Camptown, Georgetown Football Club, Houston Stars and BK International Western Tigers are the teams competing in Group One, with the Group Two being Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Riddim Squad, Flamingo and Renaissance.
Setting the pace for what is anticipated to be an exciting tournament from 08:00 h tomorrow are Sunburst Camptown and Georgetown Football Club.
BK Int’l Western Tigers will then match skills with Houston Stars from 09:15 h to be followed by a match-up between Flamingo and Santos from 10:30 h. The final game of the day will see Fruta Conquerors matching skills with Renaissance.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. Three points will be awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.
Only players born on or after January 1, 1996, are eligible to play in this tournament which will see the winning team lift the champions trophy and gold medals; the losing finalist will also receive a trophy and silver medals while the winner of the third place game featuring the losing semi-finalists will receive bronze medals and a trophy. Fourth place will also attract a trophy while there will be individual prizes for the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament, the player to score the most goals and the best goalkeeper.
Players and officials will be refreshed with Sunbusrt Orange Juice. The Guyana Football Referees Council will be providing officials for all the games in the tournament which will be played under the rules of the Georgetown Football Association, Guyana Football Federation and FIFA.
