$320,000 armed robbery accused remanded

JAGDESH Baksh, of Lot 31 Second Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday on a robbery under arms charge.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he was not required to plead to the indictable offence, particulars of which said, on March 3, being armed with a gun, he robbed Nazeela Sookdeo of $320,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had gone to Black and Decker Hardware Store in Kingston, on March 3, where she was confronted by the accused and two other persons.
The Prosecutor said Sookdeo was about to enter her motor car when the accused and the other two disembarked from PNN 515 and demanded the money from her.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, for the Defence, said the vehicle in which Baksh was is owned by him and operated as a taxi.
The lawyer said his instructions are that Baksh was hired by two men to take them to Kingston and, when arrested, the accused told police he can identify the passengers.
The case will be called, again, on April 4.
