NSC Annual Awards presentation on tonight

THE NATIONAL Cultural Centre will be a hive of activity tonight from 19:00 h, when Guyana‘s Senior 2010 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Hugh Ross and Shondell Alfred respectively, along with other recipients will be presented with their spoils. While Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Conrad Plummer, Director of Sport Neil Kumar and Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony are expected to deliver brief remarks, His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo is expected to deliver the feature address and assist with the distribution of the awards.
Guyana and West Indies ‘A’ leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Aliann Pompey are the runners-up in the Senior category.
Seventeen-year-old Bygeval Secondary School student Chavez Ageday is the Junior Sportsman-of-the-Year with Chelsea Edghill, for her sterling performances in the field of table tennis where she won numerous accolades, including the Caribbean Cadet Championship, accepting her award on the distaff side.
Stabroek News’ Orlando Charles, NCN’s Jermaine Carter and both the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) and the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) are the Sports Journalist Photographer, Sports Journalist Non-print, Sports Association and Most Improved Association award winners respectively.
GAPLF’s president Peter Greene is the Male Sports Official and the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Karen Pilgrim the Female Sports Official, with the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association’s (GABA) Siebert Blake being named the Male Sports Coach of 2010.
The Lady Jaguars, Guyana’s female national soccer team is the Sports Team-of-the-Year, while Walter Grant-Stuart won the Special Awards for Person with Disability, with Honourable Mention going to Kaieteur News’ Franklyn Wilson and Capitol News’ Esaun Griffith.
