BALKARRAN SOMRA (no address given) pleaded guilty to assault and threatening language charges yesterday and was fined $20,000 with the alternative of three months imprisonment on each.
Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, sitting at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, imposed the monetary penalty on him after he admitted threatening Tarmnattie Bagmanie, on February 23, at Anna Catherina, also on West Coast Demerara.
The Court heard that Somra returned home under the influence of alcohol and issued a threat to kill the virtual complainant, who is his wife.
Defence Counsel Fitzgerald Yaw said the family lives in harmony, except on occasions when the defendant consumes alcohol and he is remorseful over what he did, by hitting her several blows in her back.
