Woman charged in another visa false pretence case

BIBI Azeez, 45, of Lot 67 Duncan Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, has been charged with obtaining money under false pretence.
She appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded not guilty.
Particulars of the offence alleged that, between April 1 and November 30, 2009, with intent to defraud, she obtained $1.3M from Vidya Sankar, by falsely pretending that she was in a position to secure a seaman’s visa for him, knowing it to be false.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, had no object to bail being granted the defendant and surety was set at $300,000, after the prosecutor pointed out that Azeez has a similar case pending.
The new case was transferred to a different Court for February 28.
