BIBI Azeez, 45, of Lot 67 Duncan Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, has been charged with obtaining money under false pretence.
She appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded not guilty. Particulars of the offence alleged that, between April 1 and November 30, 2009, with intent to defraud, she obtained $1.3M from Vidya Sankar, by falsely pretending that she was in a position to secure a seaman’s visa for him, knowing it to be false.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, had no object to bail being granted the defendant and surety was set at $300,000, after the prosecutor pointed out that Azeez has a similar case pending.
The new case was transferred to a different Court for February 28.
