Three ambassadors, one honorary consul accredited to Guyana

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon,at a post-Cabinet press briefing Thursday, pointed out that Cabinet had accredited several non-resident ambassadors and an honorary consul to Guyana. The diplomats are ambassadors Joel Jodeau of the French Republic; Nikolay Dmitrievich Smirnov- Russian Federation; Mario Albertio Limo Da Silva- Portuguese Republic and Peter Ormond Abdool as the Honorary Consul of Finland.
The ambassadors are paid representatives to represent their countries in other states.
Guyana’s international image has been significantly enhanced because of its success in consolidating relations with traditional partners, such as North America, Europe and the Caribbean, while creating strategic alliances with others, such as the Middle East and its South American neighbours.
Following President Bharrat Jagdeo’s visit to Kuwait in January, 2010, Guyana has since appointed Dr. Odeen Ishmael as Ambassador to Kuwait, making it the first time that Guyana will be represented in that part of the world
Guyana has also approved the establishment of an Australian consulate in Guyana this year. An honorary consul of Guyana has also been appointed in Saudi Arabia. Iran has also become one of the countries on the new frontier that recently became allies with Guyana after President Bharrat Jagdeo visited that country last year.
This friendship progressed further when His Excellency Abdolreza Mesri presented his Letters of Credence to President Jagdeo as the new Iranian Ambassador to Guyana. (GINA)
