THE BUSLOAD of students from President’s College were not disappointed as their basketball team steered them to a convincing win over Guyana Education Trust College when the United Insurance-sponsored Schools Basketball tournament, organised by St Stanislaus College, continued at the Cliff Anderson Sport Hall (CASH) yesterday. President’s College had the biggest support so far in the tournament and Trust College had to contend with an almost one-man effort from national U-19 point guard Dominic Vincent, who netted a tournament-high 22 points out of his team’s total of 24.
It was, however, not enough for Trust College, as the Golden Grove-based contingent constructively accumulated 43 with power forward, Nyamebekyere Bacchus leading the way with 12 points.
In the other game played, Charlestown Secondary humbled Brickdam Secondary 32-14 with Delon Wilburg getting a game-high 16 to pilot his school into the quarterfinals set for tomorrow.
Both President’s College and Trust College have also made it into the last eight set to bounce off at 14:00 h at the Saints court tomorrow.
The final preliminary group matches will be played this afternoon at the Saints court on Brickdam. In the first match set for 15:30 h Plaisance Secondary will play St Rose’s High followed by Business School against the hosts. (Ras Abdalla Tafari Wadada)
