Bibi Gopaul testifies about assault by murder co-accused

JARVIS Small, called Barry, and his co-accused in the Neesa Gopaul murder case, Bibi Shareda Gopaul, were in Court yesterday but not on the capital offence charge.
They were before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, because he is charged with unlawfully assaulting her to cause actual bodily harm on August 18, 2010.
Particulars of the offence said it was committed about 17:30 hrs at the virtual complainant’s Leonora home also on West Coast Demerara.
Testifying about the assault, Gopaul, who had an intimate relationship with Small, said she knew him for ten and a half years.
She said the two of them had an argument and he dealt her cuffs, slaps and kicks about her body.
The witness said, after that happened, the defendant went away but on August 21, she made a report at Leonora Police Station.
She was cross-examined by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos, for the defence, before the matter was adjourned to Wednesday February 9.
