Lawyers address jury in Leopold Street murder case

Judge Gregory to sum up evidence to jury tomorrow
THE Presiding Judge in the Leopold Street murder case will sum up the evidence tomorrow, after which she will hand over the case to the mixed jury for their consideration and verdict in relation to the accused, Tarel Edwards, called ‘Troy Ford’.
The prosecution had set out to prove that following a row over money due to the accused by Terrence Moffat, now dead, the accused, armed with a gun, shot Moffat who later died in hospital.
But Counsel for the defence, Mr. Peter Hugh, told the jury that from instructions by his client, it was the deceased who was armed on April 2, 2006, when he attacked the accused and was wounded accidentally during a struggle between the two men.
On the other hand, State prosecutor, Miss Rhondel Weaver, in association with Miss Teshana James, told the jury in her final address that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the accused and  urged  them to return a verdict in accordance with the evidence and the oath they had taken.
Presiding Judge Miss Dawn Gregory is expected to sum up the evidence to the jury tomorrow after which she would hand over the case to them for their consideration and verdict.
The case for the prosecution is that Terrence Moffat, now dead, was with other persons in Leopold Street on April 2, 2006, when he was allegedly shot and wounded by Tarel Edwards.
In his defence, Edwards, in a sworn statement from the witness box, said that Moffat had owed him some money in relation to a drug deal and that Moffat, who was armed, became angry and attacked him with the weapon when he demanded his money. During an attempt to disarm his attacker, Edwards said that Moffat was accidentally shot.
