Defendant broke vehicle window, stole $2,000 handbag

Court told…
ALBERT DeFreitas, of Lot 100 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry  yesterday, on charges of simple larceny and malicious damage to property.
He pleaded not guilty to both and was put on $85,000 bail until February 17.
The allegations against him are that, on January 27, he stole one handbag valued $2,000 from Charles Da Silva and  unlawfully and maliciously damaged a $50,000 window on a motor vehicle belonging to the same man.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had parked his vehicle on North Road, in Bourda,  another Georgetown ward and went into a nearby store.
The Prosecutor said Da Silva heard his alarm and, on checking, he saw the defendant pulling the bag out through the broken  window.
