A MON Repos man is lamenting the theft of his brand new Toyota Spacio, which was removed from his home in the wee hours of yesterday morning, before he had time to collect the certificate of registration or make number plates and attach them to the vehicle. The vehicle is a grey Toyota Spacio: Engine number 1NZ A 422684; Chassis Number: NZE 121 – 3223351. The date of registration with the Guyana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) Internal Revenue Division Licence Office is January 28, 2011.
Owner of the vehicle Deonarain Singh called ‘Latchie’ said he bought the vehicle and took it home at 380 Block ‘8’ Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday. “When I got up around 7:30 hrs the gate was open and the vehicle missing,” he said.
According to the man, he suspects that the thief or thieves cut the lock that was on the gate. All he saw from the vehicle were two pieces of rubber that lined the door. He believes these items fell from the vehicle when the person or persons forced the door open.
He said he went to the Beterverwagting Police Station and made a report, and that a rank went to the scene of the crime and commenced investigations. Singh was able to furnish the police with the particulars of the vehicle, such as the engine, chassis and licence registration number of the vehicle and explained to the officer that he only collected the registration yesterday, hence had no chance to put on number plates or apply for insurance before the vehicle was stolen.
The man complained that he was at the GRA’s Licence Office the entire day on Thursday trying to get the registration document. He was only able to pick it up yesterday morning and he felt if he had gotten it on Thursday the vehicle would have had plates on it. (Johann Earle)
