TWO of the suspects, who were held for questioning about the murder of Shane Rowley, in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, have been released.
They were set free from Police custody last weekend but the prime suspect is still at large. The killing took place after years-long suspicion over theft and damage to a fence that led to the victim being overpowered by three persons, including a woman, all his next door neighbours, on Saturday morning, during a quarrel when Rowley said two of his bicycle tyres were missing.
The father of five succumbed after being stabbed, repeatedly, in his yard, at Lot 68 ‘A’ Field, Sophia.
A post mortem examination was performed on his body yesterday and the funeral is scheduled for tomorrow.
A relative of the deceased, Welton Blucher, told the Guyana Chronicle that Rowley was quarrelling with his neighbours over the missing tyres and his fence, which was often broken to facilitate passage through his yard.
Blucher said Rowley was upset that the neighbours were also stealing his property and he was killed by a woman and her two sons, one of whom did the stabbing. She and one of her sons had been detained and the other is still being hunted by lawmen up to press time.
Meanwhile, Rowley’s reputed wife, Vandetta Carter, 34, said she was not at his home when the tragedy occurred but in her house, in Sophia, too.
She confirmed that Rowley and the neighbours have been feuding for the past seven years and that they quarrelled often, which is one of the reasons she moved away from his place.
The grief stricken woman said Rowley was a farmer who also did masonry and carpentry. He was the father of two of her children but has three others from a previous relationship.
She pleaded for justice to be served, noting that Rowley was the sole breadwinner for her household.
