Neesa Gopaul murder case PI…
POLICE are investigating an allegation that the wife of Jarvis Small, the Number one accused in the Neesa Gopaul murder case, tampered with a Prosecution witness. The disclosure was made yesterday when Small and Bibi Shareema Gopaul were in Court for the continuation of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the joint charge against them.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry told the Defence team that Special State Prosecutor Prithima Kissoon informed her, at the previous hearing, about the report.
The magistrate said it was alleged that Mrs. Small invited to her home a witness who had previously testified against her husband.
Observing that it is an offence, and the person who issued the invitation could be charged, the magistrate enquired of Kissoon whether any action was taken against Mrs. Small.
It was then the Prosecutor disclosed that the accusation is presently being investigated by the police.
Defence Counsel Vic Puran, representing Gopaul, the victim’s mother, completed his cross-examination of police detective Joel David, and the proceedings were adjourned to February 14, when that witness will be re-examined.
