… Hussain one win away from first title
LORIS Nathoo maintained the lead in the Trophy Stall Chess Tournament based on the Median Buchollz Tiebreaker System. Nathoo and Wendell Meusa are the only two players unbeaten after six rounds of play. They are tied on four and a half points apiece.
In some key matchups last Sunday at the Keishar’s Sports Club, Nathoo defeated Pierre Boucher in round four, while Meusa got past David Khan.
Chocking up wins in round four also were Errol Tiwari, Alexander Duncan and Shiv Nandalall. In round seven, Nathoo secured a comfortable win over Duncan while Meusa defeated Boucher. Khan, Tiwari and Chung also secured wins.
The points standing after five rounds: Loris Nathoo and Wendell Meusa four and a half, David Khan three and a half, Alexander Duncan and Errol Tiwari three points, Pierre Boucher two and a half, Rodwell Poole, Glenford Corlette, Chino Chung and Shiv Nandalall two points apiece, while Haatram Parbat is on one point.
Rashad Hussain is unbeaten after six rounds in the junior category to sit on top with six points. Hussain defeated Shane Yussuf and Saeed Ali in his two matches last Sunday to lead his nearest rivals by one and a half points.
Hussain only need one win from his two games this Sunday to secure his first major title. Saeed Ali, Suhai Feng, Anthony Drayton and Raan Motilal are on four and a half points each, Khalid Gajraj four points, Shane Yussuf and Davion Mars three and a half, Aslam Hussain, Joshua Pedro, Roberto Neto, Vaughn Moses and Avinash Kishun are all on three poins apiece.
The tournament continues this Sunday with the final two rounds. The seniors will start play at 09.00 h, while the juniors are set for 11:00 h.
