THE Children’s Mashramani competition has kicked off the Republic Anniversary celebrations in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam).
The contest, which began yesterday at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, started with nursery schoolchildren reciting individual dramatic poetry under the theme ‘Showcasing our culture: Sustaining our pride.’ Before declaring the rivalry open, Regional Development Officer, Mr. Daneshwar Gangoo, said the Regional Administration is very proud to start this year’s activities with the little nursery schoolchildren.
He said it will continue tomorrow and Friday, featuring children from nursery to secondary levels.
Reliance Nursery was first on stage yesterday and performed ‘Showing our culture with energy and pride’, followed by Cotton Field with ‘Protect our Culture in a beautiful Guyana’. Anna Regina Nursery School presented ‘Come out to school’, which was also well received by the large crowd in the pavilion.
Anna Regina New Nursery did ‘Violence hurts everyone’ while Affiance Nursery, with HIV/AIDS, took the crowd by storm and won the hearts of the judges to win the first place.
Queenstown Nursery contributed ‘Our flag’ and Richmond Nursery ‘We are a loving people’.
The first place winner in the nursery school dramatic poetry category, Affiance Nursery, will represent the Region at the national level.
In the nursery calypso group, only Reliance participated and three of its pupils sang ‘Take your education – help stop illiteracy’.
