Boast leads to Rupununi murder probe, drug bust

POLICE, acting on information that a man boasted, on Saturday, January 22, he had murdered a man and buried the body, arrested the alleged killer while he was imbibing at Moco Moco, a Kanuku Mountain village. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest, in the same village, of two Brazilians who were found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana, one of whom claimed that the previously arrested suspect had killed his brother.
Further enquiries were made and, with the assistance of an interpreter, police carried out a search and recovered the corpse of Brazilian Armando Da Silva, 26, from in a shallow grave.
A police release said a field, of about one acre, with approximately 2,000 marijuana plants, ranging in height between two and six feet and a brother of the murder suspect was held in a nearby camp.
The release said all four men are in custody while the dead body of Da Silva was transported to Lethem Hospital mortuary with the aid of the village Toshao and a media representative.
A team of investigators has, since, been dispatched to the Rupununi area to continue investigating what occurred.
