ROSEAU, Dominica, (CMC) – National players Collin Bernard and Kurlson Benjamin have been suspended and barred from taking part in any activities organised under the auspices of the Dominica Football Association with immediate effect, pending a disciplinary hearing. Bernard, vice-captain of the national team, as well as prolific goal scorer Benjamin were suspended last week, and will take no further part in the current Premier Division competition.
It is alleged that the duo verbally assaulted referee Carlisle Jno Baptiste during a Premier Division encounter between Steel Bombers and Bath Estate at Benjamin Park in north-western coastal village of Portsmouth last week.
Bernard and Benjamin are both members of the Bath Estate, and featured prominently during Dominica’s campaign in last year’s Digicel Caribbean Cup.
It is not the first time that Benjamin has found himself in hot water, as he was banned for a few matches two years ago for his involvement in a brawl during a Premier Division.
