– During first CARICOM meeting he ‘missed’ in 18 years
THE services of retired Secretary-General(SG)of the Caribbean Community, Sir Edwin Carrington was, on Monday, recognized by Acting SG Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite and Chairman of the CARICOM Council of Ministers/ Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development of Grenada, Senator Deneth Modeste.
Speaking at the opening session of the 27th Meeting of the Council of CARICOM Ministers, the second highest decision-making body in CARICOM, Ambassador Applewhaite noted that the meeting on Monday was the first time in 18 years that a meeting of CARICOM was being held in the absence of Sir Edwin.
“I think that it is only fitting for us, to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to him. The year 2010 was indeed a challenging year for us. With the inspirational leadership provided by Sir Edwin, we were able to face many of those challenges,” she said.
Senator/Minister Modeste, in his capacity as Chair, also recognized the former SG’s sterling contribution to the people of this Community and which was served with distinction over the past18 years.
