Former First Lady hospitalized after fall

Former First Lady, Mrs. Joyce Hoyte, was late yesterday afternoon rushed to the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in the city, reportedly after she fell in her home on North Road, Bourda.

On arrival at the institution, doctors immediately got about stabilising her, before running tests and initiating further medical procedures. This newspaper was unable to get an update on her condition hours later.

The accident was said to have happened shortly before 17:00hrs, and within minutes of being summoned, St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital had dispatched an ambulance which transported the 77-year-old widow of former President Hugh Desmond Hoyte to the institution.
Her husband was President of Guyana from 1985 to 1992, and died of a heart attack in December 2002.
