THE presentation of the National Budget is truly amazing, and displays a Government that cares for its people and one that desires more and more healing, and progress for the nation itself.
Thank God I am an independent thinker, wihout political alliance, membership, and hence, can be a fair commentator. I say this because when I see those in opposition making some ridiculous statements after the presentations, which make them look simplistic, and just filled with political fluff and jealousy, I feel elated that I do not have to say things that make me look ridiculous, as it is expected that those in opposition, have to oppose, if merely to try and show that they are smart or they have something to say, or earning their keep.
Since childhood, I have always had political interest in the affairs of my country. I have never seen any opposition agreeing with any budget presented by any government in power. But one has to give special kudos to the late and great Dr. Cheddi Jagan, for he rendered to the PNC government what was termed as: “Critical Support,” which was to help the government, in reality to help the people.
The Budget amazingly answers the needs of all categories of the citizenry, and hence, Guyana will be the beneficiary.
There is no need for me to point out the many benefits to the population, as the Hon. Ashni Singh, did a marvelous presentation, which may even be historical and might have made the seats of some in the opposition tremble. I was smiling as I looked on to the presentation, and I imagined how I would have felt sitting in that seat, knowing that the budget is fantastic, and knowing every opposition wish is to be in government. I have many friends in the opposition and in the government, so I always have a good time as an observer, and fair commentator.
I am looking to find avenues to criticise the government in the budget, so after hard thinking this is all I could come up with: The threshold should have been for $50,000.00 not $40.000.00. VAT should have been revised and lowed to 8% (but money to spend on the people and country has to come from somewhere), and maybe finally all the roads in Atlantic Gardens can be built properly. Not only the entrance piece. People in the inner areas have suffered for over thirty years. We have hundreds of voters living here and have never enjoyed a road. The undersigned spent a huge sum to build the Council’s road in his street.
The budget is good for business, local and expatriate, it is good for individuals, and it is gold for the youth, for the homeless (many who choose to be homeless), the old and the pensioners. Our minister, president and government have in my opinion created a miracle pleaser. I am looking for something to attack on the budget but can find nothing. So praises are rightfully due.
