$10,000 fine for using abusive language

Rohan Henry of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, was yesterday fined $10,000 with an alternative of one month imprisonment, and bonded to keep the peace until December 31, 2011, on a charge of using abusive language.

Henry, who appeared before Magistrate Niasha Hatmin in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, was charged with using abusive language to Seechan Seelochan at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, on  May 26, 2010, thereby occasioning a Breach of the Peace, contrary to Section 14 1(a) of the Summary Jurisdiction Offences Act Chapter 8:02.

His reputed wife, Nazeema Khan, appeared as witness on his behalf, but once in the witness box, claimed she could neither remember the day nor month the defendant had a confrontation with the virtual complainant leading to the charge.
