CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh, inspected works being done on several roadways on Essequibo Coast. He, accompanied by the Regional Superintendent of Roads, Mr. David Seurantan, began his inspection at Paradise where a new street is being built and said he was not pleased with some aspects of the job.
Baksh said the shoulders must be able to prevent erosion during rainfall and he instructed Seurantan to ensure that the surface of the thoroughfare was done properly with bitumen.
The Chairman said Government policy is to provide residents with all-weather roads and the Paradise street is another example of the commitment to develop the bushy area which was once a swamp, with funding through the 2010 Regional Capital Works Programme.
A culvert is also being made there to improve the drainage in the area.
Baksh also went to inspect Rebeiro Street at Windsor Castle, which is being paved with double bitumen service treatment and said he is satisfied with the work being done to benefit hundreds of residents.
At Lima, he visited Sonna and Sheik Streets, for the paving of which the beneficiaries expressed thanks to the Government.
Baksh next ventured into paved streets in Richmond and Henrietta Housing Schemes, where residents were thankful also for the work on the Cricket Ground Street, Rickey and the third cross street and Crystal and Ganesh Streets.
Most of the streets now capped with bitumen on Essequibo Coast were in very bad condition before 1992, according to people living along them.
