ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday remanded Lenroy Almon (no address given) to prison on an attempted murder charge.
Particulars of the indictable offence said it was committed on January 1, at Turtle Creek Backdam, where the accused, allegedly, wounded Lloyd Noel, with intent to kill him.
Police prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford, said the prisoner was employed by the virtual complainant, who is the dredge owner and an argument arose between Almon and the other employees.
The Prosecutor said the victim tried to make peace but Almon armed himself with a cutlass and chopped him on the head and other parts of his body.
The injured man was rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and is still a patient there, in a serious condition, the Court was informed.
The accused, when allowed to speak, said there was an Old Year’s Night party at their mining camp and three men were calling him names. He said, because he asked them to stop, they lashed him on his head with a piece of wood and he took away the cutlass from one and used it in self-defence.
He claimed he was beaten and the magistrate granted his request to be examined by a doctor.
Meanwhile, the case was transferred to Bartica Court for January 20.
