CHUNKS of bricks from a concrete wall went flying in all directions when the driver lost control of his car and ended up half way into the portico of a shop at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, around 18:00hrs yesterday.
There were customers in the shop at the time and some were drinking outside, but only one person was injured.
Customer at Douglas Enterprises, Mrs. Rebecca Ganesh, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, said she had just finished shopping and was coming out through the door when she saw the dark blue Corolla 212 smashing through the concrete wall and heading directly at her.
She received injuries to her left arm when she leapt sideways, skidded on the debris and fell on the ground not too far away.
Other persons in the shop narrowly escaped being hit by large chunks of concrete sent flying by the impact.
Reports suggested that the vehicle was proceeding north along the Bagotstown Public Road in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge when it swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle and ended up in the shop.
The driver of the car was last night assisting Police with their investigations.
