Wounded nephew hospitalised after fight with uncle

A CHOPPING incident on Christmas Day, in Paradise Back Street on Essequibo Coast, left one person seriously injured.
It happened when an uncle and nephew, who were both consuming alcohol early that morning, were involved in a fight.
But, after both men fell and landed in some soft mud, the fighting stopped and the nephew, Pappo (only name given) walked away from his uncle, Sugrim Bacchus.
The latter went to the  standpipe in the yard to wash mud off his body but, suddenly, his uncle attacked and chopped him on the head, face and right hand with a cutlass, eyewitnesses said.
They reported that the severely wounded man collapsed in an unconscious state and had to be rescued by his wife and neighbours, who rushed him to Suddie Hospital, where he was admitted a patient.
The chopped man received 35 stitches to the wound on his hand and the other fisherman, Bacchus, is in Police custody pending further investigations.
