Drug trafficking case
TRAMAINE Sewah, 17, previously refused bail on a joint drug charge with her boyfriend Le Var Hutson alias ‘Force Ripe’, secured the grant in the Berbice High Court on Tuesday. Justice Dawn Gregory-Barnes, acting on a petition from the teen’s mother, Maxine Sewah, granted the daughter pre-trial freedom on $150,000 surety.
However, Hutson remains a remanded prisoner.
In the petition, Sewah said the teenager was at the home of Hutson, assisting him with Christmas holiday decorations before they left to shop at Rose Hall town. But, on the way, the hire car in which they were travelling, HB 7112 was stopped at a roadblock along Corentyne Public Road and directed to Albion Police Station, where cocaine, weighing 103 grammes, was, allegedly, found.
On December 17 last, Sewah, of King Street and Hutson, of New Street, both in New Amsterdam, had appeared before Magistrate Omeyena Hamilton in that town and denied trafficking in the narcotic.
The case will be called, again in front of Magistrate Hamilton, at Albion Court, on January 17, 2011. (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
