THE funeral of murdered carpenter Ravindra Sookhoo took place yesterday, with scores of people bidding him goodbye at his Lot 154 Belle Vue, West Bank Demerara home. Among the mourners, who witnessed the burial that followed, was his widow, Savitri Singh, who cried incessantly during the service and interment.
But, up to press time, his brother-in-law, who, allegedly, fatally stabbed him on Boxing Day, had not been captured and is believed to have fled to the North West District, from where he hails.
The victim was killed at his mother-in-law’s house during a family gathering and Singh said she has handed over a photograph of the suspected killer to the Police.
The Boxing Day tragedy occurred at Diamond, East Bank Demerara about 19:00 hrs following a misunderstanding between the victim and his assailant, while they and others were imbibing alcoholic beverages.
Sookhoo has also left to mourn two sons, Ryan, three and Robin, two, who were present when the stabbing took place.
Their father died at Diamond Hospital where he was taken for emergency treatment. (Michel Outridge)
