… 2011 will be better
THE Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) in 2010 donated $400 000 to Haiti, $375 000 to Pakistan Flood Relief, $275 000 to a cancer patient from Enmore and $250 000 to the Windies Female Quartet.
They were also involved in fundraising activities through softball matches at Crabwood Creek where they raised $497 000 and Mahaicony Creek where the sum realised was $350 000. These sums were raised through contributions from its 35 members and many followers.
The association would like to thank its members and followers for their generosity and do hope that we continue this good work.
The GFSCA sent two teams to the USA to participate in the Florida Cup 2010 which took place on February 12, 13, and 14. The Floodlight A team went to the final played at the Fort Lauderdale Cricket Stadium, but lost. It is the only softball organisation that ever sent teams to this World Premier Softball event.
The General Marine nationwide softball tournament, organised by the GFSCA played in three categories – Male Over-40, Male Open and Female Open – was successfully completed in less than three months. The competition started September 12 and ended at the GCC ground, Bourda, on December 5.
In 2011, January 23, the Stag Beer & El Dorado Rum nationwide softball competition will begin.
This competition will be played in three categories – Male Over-40, Male Open and Female Open. This competition will last for five months, since the GFSCA will make space for four weeks to run off the GT&T 10/10 softball tournament, two weeks for the beginning and two weeks for the ending of GT&T. All teams wishing to play in the Stag Beer & El Dorado Rum tournament will be accepted and can call Wayne Jones at 650-1790.
In February 2011 the association will play a fundraising match at Tuschen for the community centre there.
March 4, 5 & 6 will be Florida Cup 2011 in the USA. The GFSCA will send two teams for the fourth consecutive year.
In April 2011 Floodlight A & B will play at Crabwood Creek to raise funds for the CWC Crematorium Site.
During May 2011, for the first time ever in softball history, there will be inter-county matches in all three categories – Male Over-40, Male Open and Female Open. It will be called Mike’s Pharmacy Inter-County Softball.
June 2011 will see the playoff and ending of the Stag Beer & El Dorado Rum Tournament.
In July 2011, the GFSCA will be hosting teams from South Florida, Orlando, New York, Connecticut, Maryland and Toronto to play against Guyana’s best four softball teams. This tournament will be called ‘Guyana Cup 2011’.
In August 2011, the Trophy Stall Nationwide Softball male and female softball tournament will begin. This will finish on December. 4, 2011.
The GFSCA is a registered organisation at the Deeds Registry, Registrar of Friendly Society and National Sports Commission, West Indies Softball Association (WISA) and the South Florida Softball Cricket League (SFSCL).
We will like to wish all cricketers well during the coming year and would like to advise all youths to stick to the major form of cricket, and if you cannot make it there, then we welcome you to softball.
