SEVEN persons, including a male juvenile, are in police custody pending investigations into two separate armed robberies.
The first incident took place at about 21:00hrs Wednesday at Bare Root, East Coast Demerara, when taxi-driver Breone Wright, 31, of Melanie Damishana, also on the East Coast Demerara was attacked and robbed by four men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Wright was proceeding along the access road when he was stopped by the men who enquired the cost to go to the public road. The men then joined the car, held him at gunpoint and robbed him of $5,000 in cash, one cell phone and his Carina AT 192 motor car.
The police responded promptly to the report and recovered the motor vehicle at a workshop at Bel Air, Georgetown. Three men and a male juvenile were arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, in the second armed robbery at about 20:15hrs on Wednesday, goldsmith, Gopaul, 51, of Richmond, Essequibo Coast, and his wife, were attacked and robbed by four men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Gopaul and his wife were at home with the door open when the men entered and held them up. The men took away a quantity of gold jewellery and $50,000 in cash and escaped after tying up the victims.
Acting quickly on the report made the police arrested three men. Some of the stolen jewellery was recovered on one of them.
They are in police custody as the investigations continue.
