GPF makes 2010 awards to ranks, CPG members

DEPUTY Superintendent Stephen Mansell copped the Guyana Police Force (GPF) ‘Best Cop’ award on Wednesday last, carting off $250,000, a plaque, a dinner for two, a day trip to Kaieteur Falls, compliments of Roraima Airways and $10,000 from businessman Roshan Khan.
The runner-up awardee, Woman Inspector Abrams got $200,000 and a plaque.

The Police Sportsman of the Year is Corporal Randolph Morgan, who received $100,000 and a plaque while the Sportswoman of the Year, Lance Corporal Natasha Alder was presented with $100,000 and a plaque.
The Best Divisional Cops are Inspector C. Davis (Headquarters); lance corporal Johnson (‘A’ Division); Mansell (‘B’ Division); Detective Kingson (‘C’ Division); Inspector Abrams (‘D’ Division); Corporal Winter (‘E&F’ Division) and Detective Corporal Halley (‘G’ Division), all of whom were given $100,000 each and a plaque.
The Male Sports Personality award went to Sergeant Lindon Wilson and the Female Sports Personality to Ms. Phillips, both receiving $50,000 each.
Commendation and other awards also went to other policemen and women, members of Community Policing Groups (CPGs) and others, for sterling work in 2010.
In his address to the gathering at Eve Leary, Georgetown, Police Commissioner Henry Greene said it is the time for the GPF to celebrate the work done by its ranks.
He said, when he looked at what was done since July last, some did exceedingly well and, as such, earned themselves the Best Cop in their respective divisions and the overall Best Cop, which are significant achievements.
Greene acknowledged, too, that police ranks and CPG members will receive monetary and other awards, certificates and commendations and several will get larger sums than others.
Still, it is, indeed, a happy time of celebration for the GPF, he maintained.
