KMTC Boxing Day horse racing Meet …

DDL maintains partnership with Guyana’s oldest horseracing club
OVER the past 40 years, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) through their El Dorado brand of rum has seen it fit to partner with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) in their annual Boxing Day horse race meeting.

At a simple presentation ceremony held in their High Street boardroom, Brand Manager of DDL/El Dorado rum Jeranzee Marques handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum and a trophy to honorary president of KMTC and former Chancellor of the Judiciary Cecil Kennard.
“Another year has come which means another Boxing Day horserace meeting will be hosted by the KMTC and we at DDL, through our El Dorado brand of rum, are pleased to be associated with the club on this venture once again for the 40th year and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage others to come on board and support the races.”
In his thank-you remarks, Kennard lauded the sponsors for their timely and unflinching support once again, while stating that sponsorship is a vital spoke in the organising of any event, irrespective of the size of sponsorship the organiser receives.
The race will cover a distance of nine furlongs and will be contested among three-year-old horses, born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies, with the winner pocketing $400 000 and a trophy, while the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will collect $200 000, $100 000 and $50 000 respectively.
Horses listed to participate include Gabriel’s Gold, Got to Go, Peaceful, Celebration Time and Sabrina Princess, while Kennard stated that more horses are expected to take entry to the event.
