13-year-old feared drowned in Pomeroon River mishap

WHAT started as a ‘fun thing’ at Grant Phoenix Park in the Pomeroon River, late Sunday afternoon, turned out tragic when a 13-year-old boy fell into the murky water.

The lad, Jason Abrams, of Mainstay, Pomeroon River, is feared drowned. Police, late yesterday said, his body had still not been recovered.

A police report said, “Around 17:30hrs on Sunday, the teen was in one of two boats  racing in the Pomeroon River when one of them collided with a canoe in which Ovid Garraway, 34, and Jason Abrams, 13,both of Mainstay, Pomeroon River, were travelling.

“As a result of the collision Jason Abrams fell overboard and is feared to have drowned.

“The pilot of one of the boats has been arrested and is in police custody, while efforts are continuing to locate the pilot of the other boat,” the report concluded.
