WITH regards to noise nuisance, I like to draw your attention to continued noise harassment every night of the week (Tuesday nights more pronounced) at the corner of Barr Street and Stanley Place in Kitty, Georgetown. There is a night club immediately on the left hand corner of Barr Street entering from Vlissengen road which operates up to 3:00 to 4:00 am in the mornings playing very loud music which disturbs the entire neighbourhood.
I know there is an enforced law for noise nuisance, but the operator of this night club seems to be above the law for various reports were made to the disciplined forces and yet the same thing continues night after night. This nightclub disturbs the peace and is causing sleepless nights and not to mention the stress that a sick person goes through.
Are the people in power really taking the welfare of hard working taxpayers seriously? It does not seem so. One can ask the question how a licence was granted for a nightclub to operate in a semi-residential area because, other than this nightclub in question, the area is very peaceful.
Surely the residents around should have had a say before such a licence of this nature was passed.
Something needs to be done about this noise that people have to live with every night. It would seem that the operator of this club has no regard for the law, the public and the people living around the area.
The same way drivers are charged for speeding, the operators/owners of these clubs should be charged a substantial sum when found to be operating above the allowed decibels and breaking the law.
Serious actions should be taken against these offenders as, if this trend continues, Guyana will have a lot of deaf people walking the streets and not to mention the drop in productivity of people lacking sleep.
If Guyana is to move forward, the laws to protect the populace must be executed with transparency.
The noise nuisance law must be executed without any prejudice.
