– over 100 programmes completed
The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) enjoyed a very productive and successful year in 2010 according to its long- serving Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster.
During the year, the club organised a total of 107 programmes and projects while maintaining its reputation as one of Guyana’s leading cricket clubs with strong performances on the cricket field. Foster disclosed that all the cricket teams performed well during the year with the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15 team winning the Berbice Tenelec Inc. Title in January, 2010, the Bakewell Under-17 team the Leslie Amsterdam Title in February and the Gizmos and Gadgets Under-23 taking home the Peter Lewis title.
The Rose Hall Town Metro Female team in February was also crowned the national female champions after defeating East Coast in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) tournament, while they also won the Busta Trophy.
The Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets first division team won the 2010 Busta Champion of Champions title, the Rose Hall Town 20th anniversary trophy and the Port Mourant Cricket club 20/20 tournament.
The team was also the runner-up team in the 2010 Ramcharitar first division 40 overs and the Tenelec Inc. 50 overs tournaments respectively.
Currently, the club’s Under-13, Under-15 and Under-19 teams have reached the quarterfinals of their various Berbice Cricket Board BCB) tournaments for 2010 while the females are currently preparing for a successful defence of their national championship.
Members of the different cricket teams were also on display representing Berbice and Guyana with Parmanand Narine, Shawn Perreira, Devin Baldeo and V. Gooniah representing Berbice at the Under-15 level while Dominic Rickie, Lloydel Lewis, Collis Cort, Shawn Perreira and Clinton Pestano played for the county at the Under-19 level.
At the senior Inter-county level, Royston and Esaun Crandon, Delbert Hicks and Assad Fudadin played while Nermala Sewdat, Melanie Henry, Nikita Toney, Shemaine Campbelle, Tessa Park, Erva Giddings, Phaffiana Millington, Jacquelin Singh and Oneika Tello did the same for the Berbice female team.
At the national level, the club was represented by Shawn Perreira and Parmanand Narine in the Guyana Under-15 team, Dominic Rickie at Under-19 and the Crandon’s brothers and Assad Fudadin at the senior level.
Nikita Toney, Melanie Henry, Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings represented the national team with great success.
At the West Indies level, Assad Fudadin represented the ‘A’ Team and also received a WICB Developmental contract while Shemaine Campbelle represented the region at the 2010 20/20 World Cup and several other tours.
Foster also noted that the club was able to attract a new sponsor in Gizmos and Gadgets for their first division team, to add to the existing list of sponsors which includes Bakewell, Farfan and Mendes, DDL Pepsi and Metro Office Supplies.
The club also successfully hosted the 7th Edition of the Guyana Beverages Company-sponsored Busta Champion of Champions and the 14th Annual Cricket Academy in July/August which attracted 120 young cricketers between the ages of 8 to 18 years.
The 19th Annual RHTYSC awards ceremony was held in March with over $2.5M worth of prizes, trophies and medals shared out to club members.
Twelve young cricketers also benefited from cricket gear under the club’s second annual Basil Butcher Berbice Cricket Development Trust Fund at the cost of $300 000, while four young Berbice cricketers also received $250 000 worth of cricket gear under the second annual RHTYSC/Western Union Junior Ambassador Programme.
