President off to Brazil for Mercosur meet

…UNASUR Sec. General to be discussed
President Bharrat Jagdeo leaves today for Brazil to participate in the Mercosur meeting for one day and will use the opportunity to meet with other Heads of State of Latin America, given the role of Guyana holding the Presidency of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
Speaking at a press conference held at the Office of the President yesterday, President Jagdeo said  the meeting will allow for doing some of the work on
which it has been agreed at the Fourth Regular Meeting of UNASUR in Guyana three weeks ago that urgent attention is needed.
Among this, he said, is the consultation on the appointment of a new Secretary General for the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR). This was one of the identified priorities of the just-concluded UNASUR meeting here, hailed a success in terms of its organisation and outcome.
Mercosur is the Southern Common Market. The President is to return on Friday.
