Australia praises President Jagdeo for climate change work

At books donation…
AUSTRALIAN High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago and Plenipotentiary Representative to CARICOM, Mr. Philip Kentwell, has lauded President Bharrat Jagdeo for his work on climate change.

The diplomat commended the Guyanese Head-of-State Thursday, when he made a donation of children’s books on the subject to the National Library, in Church Street, Georgetown.
At the handing over, on the ground floor Adult Borrowing Section, Kentwell noted that Australia has been affected by climate change and is working to heighten awareness of the issue.
He said it is important for young people to be aware of environmental issues, because, apart from being the adults of tomorrow, they can also educate their parents.
Kentwell recalled that, a year ago, Australia donated $60M to CARICOM in a three-step programme geared to forge links between the Pacific region and countries of the Caribbean, create people to people relations through scholarships and sports outreaches and facilitate resilience in the economies, by working with CARICOM to increase regional integration and economic prosperity.
The Australian High Commission, which is accredited to 14 countries across the region, recently funded the seminar on ‘Climate Change in the Caribbean: Equipping Policy Makers to Combat the Threat’, in conjunction with the British High Commission in Barbados.

That November 10 to 11 event was attended by senior policymakers from the Commonwealth Caribbean.
The Librarian, Ms. Gillian Thompson thanked Kentwell for the gifts and assured him that the Library would make good use of them.
She was pleased that the books are intended for children.
