!VAMONAS con Pancho Villa! (Let’s go with Pancho Villa!) was the first in a series of films shown Monday night and continuing through this week, as the Embassy of Mexico in Guyana, on Brickdam, Georgetown, screens productions surrounding the Mexican revolution.
Filmed in 1936, it is based on a novel and tells the story of a group of friends who hear about the revolt and decide to join.
They end up suffering the cruel reality of war under the command of a general who is portrayed as not caring about his men.
As opposed to many other Mexican movies with the same theme, the film focuses more on the cruelty of the revolution and Pancho, himself, a national hero in Mexico.
The movie, which was a super production in its time, led to the bankruptcy of the company that made it.
Other films scheduled for screening are Enamorada (In love), El Compadre Mendoza (The Godfather Mendoza), De Todos Modos Juan te llamas (Anyhow Juan is calling) and ‘Ora si! tenemos que ganar! (Pray do! Now have to win!).
Public admission to the shows is free and all the films have English sub-titles. Showtime is 18:00 hrs.
