Unlawful wounding case dismissed as virtual complainant withdraws

COMPTON Jagdeo Singh (no address given) appeared in Court on an unlawful wounding charge yesterday.
He pleaded not guilty to the November 14 offence, particulars of which said he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Sheila Persaud, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
However, after the virtual complainant told the Court she did not want to proceed with the case, it was dismissed and she was ordered to pay $15,000 costs.
Earlier, Singh said he had been living with Persaud for nine years and, on the day of the incident, he was intoxicated and cannot remember what happened.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said Singh went to Persaud’s gate with a cutlass and bottle and verbally abused her.
The Prosecutor said, when the woman asked him stop, he lashed her with the bottle on her head.
