Alleged matricide expected in Court today

A 30-year-old Central Rupununi man who is suspected to have beaten his mother to death with a hammer at their home at Sand Creek village Tuesday night last, is expected to be placed before a Court in Georgetown today to face the capital charge.
A reliable source disclosed that the suspect was brought down to Georgetown from Lethem under Police escort on Wednesday evening.
After appearing in Court today, he is likely to be remanded to custody until early December when the case against him will be brought up for report at the Magistrates court in Lethem.
The suspect, identified as Adrian McKenzie, was arrested by a posse of men from his village some 65 miles south of Lethem, Region 9 (Upper Essequibo/Upper Takutu) less than 24 hours after he had allegedly beaten his 62-year-old mother, Mrs. Ethel Andries, to death with a hammer.
Reports stated that the savage attack was triggered by a reprimand from his mother over his assault of her father.
He allegedly also attacked a teenaged female relative, attempting to kill her by cutting her throat with a knife.
The wound, however, proved to be superficial, and the relative raised an alarm causing him to flee in the surrounding bushes.
The bloody hammer was recovered at the crime scene.
Several men in the village mobilized horses and went in search of him on horseback.
He was held some distance away on Wednesday and handed over to the Police at Lethem.
