In Berbice… ‘Big Head’ caught stealing on camera sentenced to twelve months

ANTONIO Giddings called ‘Big Head’ of Pitt Street, New Amsterdam was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment after he confessed to a charge of simple larceny, an act which was caught on a security camera. The repeat offender urged the Magistrate to be lenient with him, as he had recently been released from jail. He was previously convicted on a similar charge and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
However, the Magistrate, in response to the request, said: “You don’t seem to want to reform yourself. As soon as you are out, you are in.”
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said that on September 28 last, Giddings stole from A. Ally and Sons Hardware store, three boxes of tiles valued $15, 368.00, property of Ahmad Ally.
The incident, he said, was recorded on camera during the wee hours of the morning. Figueira, thereafter, displayed to the court several pictures of the thief during the commissioning of the offence.
