ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday released Troy Howes on bail when he appeared in court charged with unlawful wounding. Howes, of 114 South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge which said, on November 7, at Vlissengen Road, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ehud James.
Police Sergeant Alexis David, prosecuting, said the defendant saw the victim at a shop on Vlissengen Road and accused him in public of being a thief. Howes then stabbed James to his shoulder, David reported.
Howes admitted in court that he stabbed James after he became angry at the latter’s threat to kill him. He said James stole a bicycle from someone he knew and it was for this reason that he confronted him.
The magistrate changed Howes’ plea and released him on $75,000 bail. The matter will be called again on December 6.
