Children injured in accident involving GDF vehicle

THE Guyana Defence Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident involving one of its vehicles and a bus transporting school children, resulting in injuries to a number of them. The accident occurred shortly before 16:00 hrs yesterday in the vicinity of Pearl, East Bank Demerara.

The GDF, in a statement on the incident, said the bus was carrying out its usual service to the children of St. Mary’s Primary School located at Soesdyke when the accident occurred.

Eleven children were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for treatment. Three of them were referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment while the others were sent away.

The Force expresses regret for the incident, and said it is prepared through its Welfare Department, to render the necessary assistance to the affected children.
