PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo Saturday evening attended the Diwali motorcade at the Diamond Community Center Ground, which he said allows for the communion of people.
“The more we get together and celebrate our national events, the greater the unity we build that is so important for changing our country. The only way our country is going to change for the better is if we all work together very hard to transform it,” he said.[President Bharrat Jagdeo addressing the gathering at the Diwali motorcade at the Diamond Community Centre Ground.] He highlighted that the PPP/C Government has consistently fought to change the country for the betterment for all Guyanese, and posited that the community of Diamond is visible evidence of such transformation.
“There are huge changes that are taking place before your eyes in the landscape of this area and the services that are being provided,” the Head of State said.
Diamond is among one of the areas that is earmarked for township, equipped with all of the facilities to meet the needs of the growing population in the area. Additionally, Government is now moving to construct a four-lane road, connecting Diamond to the city to facilitate easier flow of traffic.
The President reminded that Diwali brings enlightenment, hope, gracefulness, and focus on change for good over evil. He added that even though it is a Hindu event, it is now celebrated nationally.
“I hope that the message of Diwali will be heard right across our country and will help to make our people stronger,” President Jagdeo said.
Earlier in the evening, he also attended the opening of the Diwali Village organised by the West Demerara praant of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, at Uitvlugt, where he interacted with those in attendance.
