THE Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has planned countrywide motorcades to celebrate Deepavali 2010 and according to a release the Sabha’s central motorcade will move punctually from the Shri Krishna Mandir, Campbellville on Thursday November 4 at 19:00h proceeding through Sandy Babb Street, JB Singh Highway, Kitty Public Road along the East Coast Public Road to the LBI Community Centre Ground where a grand cultural show will be presented.
The country’s top singers will be on stage including Mohan Nandu, Sookrani Boodhoo, Rekha Singh and Krishna Mandata. Young singers from Emerging Voices will be there and the Dharmic Nritya Sangh will capture your hearts with their fine dance performances. President Bharrat Jagdeo will present prizes to the winners.
The West Demerara Praant in an innovative effort will create Hamara Gaaw or Our Village, recapturing indentureship in all its facets on Saturday October 30 at the Ocean View Mandir compound beginning at 16:00h. There will be a number of exhibits and those in attendance will dress appropriately to demonstrate Indian arrival to Guyana. Indian delicacies, clothing, diyas, coconut oil and wick will be on sale. Tassa drumming competition for youths under 25 years along with a live cultural show will keep the gathering entertained.
Praants in all the Regions have planned motorcades as well. There are three motorcades planned for Saturday, October 30, 2010. The Essequibo motorcade will leave from Affiance and Sparta converging at Anna Regina Community Center Ground. West Berbice Motorcade moves off from Bush Lot for the Blairmont Community Centre Ground. Upper Corentyne motorcade leaves from Number 36 Village and Crabwood Creek converging at Tagore Memorial Ground Number 63 Village Corentyne.
There are three motorcades planned for Sunday, October 31, 2010. Our West Demerara Praant motorcade moves from Parika and Ruimzeight converging at the Ocean View Mandir Compound. The East Berbice motorcade leaves New Amsterdam for Cumberland Cricket Ground. Central Corentyne moves from Letter Kenny and Number 1 Village and converge at Port Mourant Community Centre Ground.
The Deepavali motorcade is now indisputably the largest event in the country, bringing together people from different religious persuasion, race, ethnicity, and ages in an atmosphere of harmony as they converge to view the elaborate floats depicting Gods and Goddesses. The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is appealing to individuals to refrain from using alcoholic beverages and is reminding the public that these are strictly prohibited at all of the events that are planned. Admissions to all our events are absolutely free.
