Major Internal Auditing seminar opens today

– to  be hosted by the Institute of Internal Auditors
THE  Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) will be hosting a two day seminar, followed by a two day Regional Workshop, beginning today  at the Regency Suites Hotel, with the aim of advancing the skills of practitioners in the field of internal auditing.

According to President of the local IIA Chapter, Mr. John Seeram, the seminar will focus on Information Technology (IT) Fraud, Internal Controls and how it is related to fraud, as well as the Management of Risks.
Seeram told the Guyana Chronicle that these focus areas were selected since they are current and related to the challenges faced in both the private and public sectors.
He noted that the facilitators of the seminar have been practitioners who possess not only the qualifications, but also the skills and experiences in their respective fields.
Looking at ‘IT Fraud’ will be Mr. Jose Marin of Puerto Rico and Mr. Lance Hinds of Guyana. Mr. Larry Kowlessar and Mrs. Claire Gomez-Miller will focus on ‘Internal Controls’ and the ‘Top 10 Risks to Manage’.
Claire-Gomez will be spearheading the Regional Workshop, at which executives of the Caribbean IIA Chapters will address topics and issues such as the Management of a Chapter, Accounting for a Chapter’s Finances, Services that members can obtain and Training Programmes for its speakers.
The primary objective of the Regional Workshop, according to Seeram, is to enhance the development of the Caribbean IIA Chapters in promoting the Internal Auditing profession.
