King of Glory Lutheran celebrates Golden Jubilee

Sept. 1960 – Sept. 2010
THE King of Glory Lutheran Church, Belle Vue, West Bank Demerara, held its 50th Anniversary Celebration last month with participants included members of the congregation, representatives from the entire Lutheran Church in Guyana and also local and foreign guests. The current Pastor Reverend Richard Young is a missionary from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. His timely intervention some four years ago contributed to the revival of the congregation.

The celebration began with a Church Service which included scriptural readings, sermon [delivered by Rev. Paul Moonu, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guyana], Holy Communion, Baptism, and lively hymns accompanied by heavenly music produced by Pastor Young on his keyboard.
Thereafter, Deacon Karran delivered a short but informative history of the King of Glory place of worship. He explained that the congregation has expanded to a center that runs Institute of Distance and Continuing Education teaching courses in Early Childhood Education, English, Computer Studies and Sewing. There was an in-house graduation ceremony for the seven students who have successfully completed their courses.
Later in the day an exhibition was held. The exhibition featured a display of library books and photographs of important events that occurred during the history of the church. Additionally, items produced by the sewing class were put on show. These included pillow cases, wall decorations and school uniforms. Also featured in the exhibition was a power point display of photographs accompanied by music.
The participants who came from all over Guyana and also from Canada were treated to delicious meals of cook-up rice with chicken/ cook-up with fish taken with local drinks of pleasant flavors.
After the dining session a workshop was held in which participants were asked to state in what ways they would uplift the functioning of their congregations for the rest of the year. Commitments included prayer, better preparation of their congregations for services and improvements in communications geared toward increasing service attendance.
The celebration closed with words of encouragement from Rev. Richard Young.  He commended the King of Glory team for its excellent effort in making the golden jubilee a grand success. Dolly Karran and her daughter Kavita were given well deserved special mention.
