…Alpha United win again
WHEN the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Super League resumed on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Seawall United recorded a close victory over Victoria Kings while Alpha United steamrolled another rival to firmly maintain their position at the top of the tournament.
Alpha United trounced Buxton United 3 – 0 in the curtain raiser to push their points tally to 33 while Buxton remained in eighth position with 12 points. Seawall defeated Victoria Kings 1 – 0 in the feature showdown, Seawall, who has won four consecutive games now move on to 17 points, just behind Kings who are on 18 points.
Today, the competition continues at the GFC Ground where Camptown faces Milerock at 17:00h then the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) opposes Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United.
Over at Blairmont, Bakewell Top XX and Rosignol United will collide at 4 pm in a game which both teams need to win to solidify their position in the points standing. Rosignol is on 20 points in fifth position with five games remaining while Top XX is in ninth position with 12 points and four games remaining.
Friday play saw Alpha’s Dwight Peters scoring in the sixth minute for his team before Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams doubled the lead in the 33rd minute. The second half resumed with Alpha ahead by two goals then Philbert Moffat found an opening in the 80th minute to score Alpha’s third goal.
In the feature match, neither Kings nor Seawall scored in the first 45 minutes but the game changed in the final half and Seawall was able to emerge victorious after putting Kings on the back foot.
Adami Hoyte scored the golden goal in the 67th minute which was caused Kings all sorts of discomfort until the final whistle.
